The Mid-city
The nearby farms, the castle's lower floors, and the town proper can be found here in what is considered the Mid-City. Further north the blacksmith Koungardt can be found. The farms are to the east. The Mid-City houses and protects the average citizens from the dangers of the slums and foreign attackers.
The Town
The town is little different from any similar castle town. What few merchants that are left peddle their wares to what few citizens are left. The citizens appear pale, as the sun shines not on the Realm of Darkness. You can find anything from weapons, to herbs, to general supplies in the town. The town square houses a large fountain that has been dry for as long as anyone can remember. All are welcome here, though watching your coinpurse is suggested.

Eastern Farms
The farms to the east are in disarray, unprotected due to a lack of guards, they're constantly being burned and pillaged by attackers that dare not enter the castle walls. All manner of creatures - both alive and dead can be found outside the safety of the walls. They are not completely defenseless. Arcane sentries can be periodically found here cleaning up bandits when word of an attack reaches the High Lord Magus's ears.

Castle Lobby
The castle's lobby can be found to the north of the town, and was the most frequented place in the realm in ages past. Under constant vigil from unique, soulless machinations that resemble guards - it is perhaps the most well defended place in the city. Fighting is expressly forbidden in the lobby - and arcane wards nullify the use of harmful magic here.
Once upon a time, one would find the King or Queen wandering around the lobby engaging with the citizens - today it is eerily quiet. Will the sounds of life - as it may be - return someday?

The guards of the city patrol everywhere above the slums. They take no orders from anyone except the King and Queen - and are "programmed" to defend the city at all costs. They are heartless, soulless machinations of the Queen and should not be underestimated in large numbers.
While one or two may be effortless for a seasoned warrior to disable - all other guards in the city are instantly alerted to the presence of the attacker - making escape almost impossible.

The Smithy
The Blacksmith Koungardt can be found further north to the right of the castle. He is an imposing figure - and perhaps one of the most evil creatures in the Realm of Darkness today. He is without soul. Without life. Without purpose other than to forge weapons of war and violently kill any living creature that comes within a stone's throw of his smithy. He is summoned - and going to him directly is detrimental to your health. To summon the blacksmith, leave a golden ring upon the anvil just outside the fence. He does one project for the cost of one golden ring.

Koungardt Play Notes
Koungardt is a player character when the typist is present, and an NPC when the typist is not present. He is considered immortal for all intents and purposes - as his very life force is the darkness of the city. If "killed", he disintegrates into nothingness and is reborn from the darkness the next night. Attacking Koungardt labels you as an enemy by the guards and would make play difficult. |
